The Alliance for Gender Equality in Europe has adopted a new Strategic Framework 2025-2027, setting out how we will continue to support and strengthen the grassroots gender equality movement in Europe. Through grant-making, capacity strengthening, and awareness-raising, we aim to drive gender-transformative change and address slowing progress towards gender equality.
In December 2024, our member foundations approved the new framework, which outlines our vision, mission, and north star and refines our work into two key strategic approaches:
- Seeding and strengthening the grassroots gender equality movement in Europe.
- Mobilising the philanthropic community to support grassroots gender equality efforts across the region.
The document also introduces a set of newly adopted values that will guide our work and reaffirms who, where, and how we fund.
Through this framework, we are committed to advancing six key outcomes:
- Greater rights and opportunities for marginalised women, girls, trans, and non-binary people.
- Stronger grassroots gender equality organisations, better equipped to respond to needs and seize opportunities.
- More interconnected feminist movements, enabling collective learning and action.
- Increased philanthropic funding for gender equality work in Europe.
- Improved grant-making practices among funders.
- Better evidence, narratives, and awareness of the impact of gender equality organisations across Europe.
This strategic framework is the result of a rigorous, inclusive, and collaborative process. It draws from an independent external evaluation of our pilot phase, incorporating feedback from a survey completed by 23 grantees and over two dozen interviews with members, grantees, advisors, experts, and other stakeholders.
Member foundations reflected on these findings and engaged in discussions on how best to respond to the evolving realities of grassroots gender equality organisations and the communities they serve. The framework captures our shared vision for the future, outlining our approach to sustaining movements and expanding our support, collaboration, and philanthropic advocacy.
